A European Commission document submitted to member states and the European Parliament reveals that the EU is assessing the possibility of integrating the crypto industry into a unified EU tax system. The document estimates that a 0.1% tax on crypto transaction volumes could generate approximately €3–4 billion annually for the EU budget, while a tax on crypto capital gains could yield €1–2.4 billion per year. However, the European Commission notes that due to limited industry data, these revenue estimates remain highly uncertain. The proposal aims to create a new revenue source for the EU’s 2028–2034 budget and requires unanimous approval from all 27 member states.
