According to a recent report by Lloyd's List, Iran has stated that every vessel passing through the Strait of Hormuz must contact an intermediary linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran and submit complete documentation: IMO number, chain of ownership, cargo manifest, crew list, and destination. The Hormozgan Command of the IRGC Navy will conduct multi-layered reviews, including sanctions screening, cargo verification, and geopolitical assessment. Upon approval, vessels will be issued a passage code and routing instructions permitting passage through a single controlled channel within a five-nautical-mile zone between Qeshm Island and Larak Island. As vessels approach the channel, the passage code will be verified via VHF radio. An IRGC pilot boat will escort the vessel through under visual inspection. Once inside the channel, the vessel's Automatic Identification System (AIS) transponder will be turned off. Toll fees are settled through the intermediary after clearance, amounting to two million US dollars, and can be paid in RMB.
