According to South Korean media News1, as South Korea’s progress in formulating regulations on issuers of KRW‑denominated stablecoins remains slow, the world’s top two stablecoin issuers, Tether and Circle, are accelerating their push into the South Korean market.
Tether is currently hiring multiple roles in South Korea, including Public Relations Manager, Blockchain Investigator, and Government Relations Representative, to prepare for the upcoming Digital Assets Basic Act (Phase 2 bill), which is expected to require overseas stablecoin issuers to establish local branches to operate in the country.
Meanwhile, Circle’s USDC has recently reached a market share of approximately 10% in trading volume on South Korean cryptocurrency exchanges.
