South Korea’s Financial Services Commission (FSC) has finalized guidelines that allow listed companies and professional investors to allocate up to 5% of their equity capital to the top 20 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization on South Korea’s five major exchanges. Approximately 3,500 entities meet the eligibility criteria. Discussions are still ongoing regarding whether to include US dollar-pegged stablecoins. Exchanges are required to implement tiered execution mechanisms and order size restrictions. Industry insiders have criticized the 5% cap as overly conservative, noting that there are no similar restrictions in the United States, Japan, and the European Union. The guidelines are expected to be released in January or February, in tandem with the Basic Act on Digital Assets, with corporate cryptocurrency trading set to be implemented before the end of the year.
