After achieving success in the 2024 U.S. elections, the cryptocurrency industry is strengthening its financial firepower to gear up for the 2026 midterm elections. According to documents from the U.S. Federal Election Commission (FEC) and public statements, several crypto-focused super political action committees (super PACs) are rallying approximately $263 million in campaign funds. Data from OpenSecrets shows that this scale is nearly twice the amount spent by Fairshake — the largest organization among them — in 2024, and slightly higher than the total expenditure of the entire oil and gas industry during the same election cycle.
Since making heavy investments in 2024, with Republicans gaining majorities in both houses of Congress, lawmakers have passed bills supported by the crypto industry and confirmed the appointments of several regulatory officials with friendly stances to key positions. Last week, this influence was demonstrated again when U.S. President Donald Trump pardoned Changpeng Zhao (CZ), co-founder of cryptocurrency exchange Binance. The executive had pleaded guilty to violating U.S. anti-money laundering laws during the Biden administration and was sentenced to four months in prison.
These legislative victories — coupled with the Trump family’s embrace of cryptocurrency — are prompting some newly established super PACs to diverge from previous strategies and more firmly back Republicans, which may help the party maintain control of Congress.
