The Kenyan Parliament has passed the *Virtual Asset Service Providers Act*, which aims to provide a regulatory framework for the digital asset industry, attract investments, and standardize trading activities. The Act authorizes the central bank to grant licenses for the issuance of stablecoins and other virtual assets, while the capital market regulatory authority is responsible for issuing licenses to cryptocurrency exchanges and platforms. The Kenyan government hopes to use this to attract investments from international platforms such as Binance and Coinbase, and build Kenya into a crypto finance gateway for Africa.
