Sarah Breeden, Deputy Governor of the Bank of England, stated at a conference co-hosted by the Bank of England and the University of Warwick that the UK is building a 'diversified monetary' system. This system covers traditional and tokenized commercial bank deposits, stablecoins, and central bank money, with interoperability at its core. Breeden emphasized that central bank money should remain the settlement foundation for systemic transactions, while stablecoins and tokenized deposits will play a role in a broader range of scenarios. She called for the realization of seamless conversion between different forms of money through technical and regulatory standards, and the prevention of the formation of 'walled gardens' in payments, so as to safeguard financial stability and public trust in money.
