According to Reuters, the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) — an industry group of major global stock exchanges — has sent a letter to the U.S. SEC’s Crypto Assets Task Force, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), and the IOSCO FinTech Task Force. It calls on regulators to strengthen supervision over 'tokenized stocks,' stating that such products mimic stocks without providing shareholder rights or market protection mechanisms, which may harm investor interests and market integrity. The WFE notes that some platforms promote these products as 'U.S. stock tokens' or 'equivalent to stocks,' but they are not actual stocks in essence and may pose reputational risks to relevant listed companies.
