'The GENIUS Act establishes a clear and concise regulatory framework that will unlock the enormous potential of U.S. dollar stablecoins,' Trump said during a signing ceremony at the White House on Friday. 'This may be the greatest revolution in financial technology since the birth of the Internet.' The bill sets regulatory rules for stablecoins pegged to the U.S. dollar, including requiring issuers to hold short-term Treasury securities equal to the amount issued, or other equivalent asset reserves regulated by state or federal regulators. Supporters believe this will remove obstacles to the widespread adoption of digital assets in the financial sector.
