The US seasonally adjusted CPI monthly rate for May was 0.1%, compared with the forecast of 0.2% and the previous value of 0.2%. The unadjusted CPI annual rate was 2.4%, vs. the expected 2.5% and prior 2.3%. The unadjusted core CPI annual rate stood at 2.8%, in line with the previous figure and below the forecast of 2.9%. The seasonally adjusted core CPI monthly rate was 0.1%, lower than the expected 0.3% and prior 0.2%. With CPI data comprehensively below expectations, traders have increased bets on a Federal Reserve rate cut in September.
