Under the War Powers Act passed by the U.S. Congress in 1973, the President is limited to deploying military forces for 60 days without congressional approval.

Meanwhile, Iran issued a tough statement, warning that it will launch a **long and painful response** against U.S. military bases in the region if Washington launches another attack.
