Ship-tracking data shows a group of vessels attempted to leave the Persian Gulf on Friday evening but were unsuccessful. Meanwhile, despite Iran’s announcement that the Strait of Hormuz has reopened to shipping, shipping companies remain cautiously optimistic.

Iranian officials said Friday that the key waterway would be open to all commercial shipping during the 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, a move that pushed oil and other commodity prices lower and supported stock markets.

A senior Iranian official told Reuters that all merchant ships, including those flying the U.S. flag, may pass through the strait, but transit plans must be coordinated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The official added that vessels would be restricted to what Iran deems safe shipping lanes, 

ile warships would still be barred from passage.
