The Financial Times reported on April 6 that A7, a Russian cryptocurrency payment network under Western sanctions, is continuously expanding across the African continent. It has established an office in Nigeria, announced its entry into Zimbabwe, and is publicly recruiting project heads in Togo, with the aim of building local operations from scratch.
This series of moves is regarded as a key initiative by Russia to fully build an alternative cross-border payment system and deepen its strategic layout in Africa after being financially isolated by Western countries.
