US President Donald Trump stated that he has held a phone call with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and reached a consensus on trade issues; the US will cut the 'reciprocal tariffs' imposed on Indian goods from 25% to 18%. In exchange, India has agreed to stop purchasing Russian crude oil, increase energy imports from the US (and potentially Venezuela), and push to reduce tariff and non-tariff barriers on US goods to zero. Meanwhile, India has committed to purchasing more than $500 billion worth of US products including energy, technology, agricultural produce, and coal. This agreement takes effect immediately.
