The Hong Kong Securities and Futures Professionals Association (HKSFPA) has opposed the proposed new virtual asset management regulations in its submission to regulators. It stated that if the existing 'exemption for crypto asset allocations within 10%' under the Type 9 (Asset Management) license is revoked, even a 1% allocation to Bitcoin would require institutions to apply for a full virtual asset management license. The association argued that the compliance costs are disproportionate to the risk exposure, which may deter traditional asset management institutions from venturing into crypto assets.
