The United Nations (UN) recently released a white paper stating that its pension fund has introduced blockchain technology to verify the identity and survival status of over 70,000 pension recipients across 190 countries worldwide, replacing the traditional paper-based process. This system first launched a pilot program in 2020 and began official deployment in 2021. It was jointly developed by the UN International Computing Centre (UNICC) and the Hyperledger Foundation. The report points out that the blockchain-supported 'digital entitlement certificates' have significantly improved processing efficiency and transparency, reduced human errors and payment disruptions, and avoided the single-point failure issue of centralized systems.
