Matthew Sigel, an analyst at VanEck, pointed out that a rare divergence between BTC and ETH occurred today: Bitcoin saw a maximum single-day pullback of over 10%, while Ethereum did not experience a pullback of ≥10% — this marks the first time such a scenario has happened since 2021. Since 2020, similar situations have only occurred on 52 days, accounting for approximately 2.7% of the total period. Historical data shows that under such circumstances, Bitcoin’s median performance over the next 7 days and 30 days is -2.8% and -15.6% respectively, while Ethereum’s median performance is +6.4% (over 7 days) and -8.4% (over 30 days). Sigel believes this may be a bearish signal for the crypto market: Ethereum may provide a short-term buffer, but the overall market still tends to head downward.
